Is YouTube Marketing Right for You?

Article written by Scott Beardmore, video marketer for Red Wagon Video

Why YouTube?

Is YouTube marketing right for your business? Let's start with one simple question. What does your business need the most? I assume like most companies its sales right? What is the point of marketing? To extend the reach and the gospel of your company word to specific markets and build trust and rapport with new customers.  The end result is a larger sales pipeline for your sales team to close more business.

So is YouTube a consideration to achieve this goal?

If your customers have questions about your product or service then heck ya!!!! Let's start by saying YouTube is not just a place to host cat and dog videos. Millions of global consumers turn to YouTube.com for help to find information on products and services every day.

So let's dig a bit deeper into the demographics.

Who is searching on YouTube?

With the advancement of mobile technologies a dominate demographic watching videos is generation Y (18-24-year-olds) with generation X catching up quickly . Here are just a few eye popping user stats on YouTube:

  • The total number of people who use YouTube – 1,300,000,000.
  • Almost 5 billion videos are watched on YouTube
  • YouTube gets over 30 million visitors per day
  • In an average month, 8 out of 10 18-49 year-olds watch YouTube.
  • By 2025, half of the viewers under 32 will not subscribe to a pay-TV service.
  • Female users are 38% and male users are 62%.
  • More than half of YouTube views come from mobile devices.
  • YouTube’s mobile revenue is up to 2x y/y.
  • User Percentage by Age 18-24 – 11%, 25-34 – 23%, 35-44 – 26%, 45-54 – 16%, 50-64 – 8%, 65+ – 3%, unknown age – 14%.
  • YouTube overall and even YouTube on mobile alone reaches more 18-34 and 18-49 year-olds than any cable network in the U.S.

Your customers have questions!

So this means your customers are going straight to YouTube asking questions on products or service to make an informed purchasing choice. Are you going to be there with an answer?  Your competitors might be there already because smart companies are using YouTube to extend their marketing reach, build trust and rapport faster with new customers to nurture leads into sales.

Starting out with YouTube?

YouTube like any social media campaign requires planning and research.  Like any good marketing campaign you need to understand the topics that interest your buyer before you jump in and start posting videos. Keep in mind YouTube is a search engine owned by Google so optimizing your videos to find your target buyer is critical!  There is more to YouTube than just posting videos and like a blog one or two articles is not enough, you need a monthly publishing schedule to grow brand influence in YouTube.
